Start with your vehicle’s requirements

Check the vehicle handbook and tyre placard for tyre size, load index, speed rating and any required fitment specification. Vehicle weight and intended use matter; do not assume that a tyre suits an EV simply because its size matches.

Driving style, loads, tyre condition and operating conditions affect wear and performance. Select tyres for the particular vehicle and use, rather than treating all electric vehicles alike.

What to look for in an EV tyre

Size, load index and speed rating: meet the vehicle manufacturer’s requirements, including any specified tyre construction or fitment requirements.

Rolling resistance: compare manufacturer information for the exact tyre. It is one consideration alongside wet grip, load capability and intended use, not a guarantee of increased driving range.

Noise: tread design and noise-control features vary by product. Do not assume every EV-marketed tyre includes foam or guarantees a quieter cabin.

Intended use: consider everyday driving, loads and conditions, and seek advice if the vehicle specification or suitability is unclear.

Do you have to buy EV-specific tyres?

Not every EV requires a tyre labelled 'EV'. The tyre must meet the vehicle manufacturer’s requirements, including size, load index, speed rating and appropriate specifications. An EV label is not a substitute for checking those requirements.
